Valerie from the great blog Bohemian Season left an intriguing comment on my Oxfords Love post. She said that she was struggling with the oxfords trend as she thought it might leave her looking "like an English schoolgirl." She also mentioned that she finds oxfords to not really be sexy or feminine. (I'm guessing that these feelings are probably shared by lots of other people.) I emailed Valerie with some suggestions for how to wear oxfords and look cool and feminine without any hint of schoolgirl. Following her advice, I'm going to post some of the ideas I shared with her (thanks Valerie)!
The above outfit was inspired by this photo from The Sartorialist which I know has made the rounds on the internet, and I think it has been very influential in spreading the oxfords trend. Wearing oxfords with rolled-up, relaxed-fit boyfriend jeans is a really easy yet cool look. I think that the blazer from above, or any simple black or navy blazer, would look a million times better if the original buttons were replaced with gold ones, which would be really easy to do. You could wear a wide variety of tops with oxfords and rolled up jeans- a nice blouse would look great. I definitely recommend that you wear oxfords without socks- the same way you wear flats without socks. Actually, one exception to the no-sock rule: J.Crew makes oxfords look really good paired with ankle socks.

I really love oxfords paired with something more feminine, like a dress or skirt, to downplay their boyishness. Again, don't wear socks with the oxfords, but tights are perfectly fine.
For more ideas on how to wear oxfords, check out the J.Crew catalogues- they always have great inspiration. I hope that these ideas help! Make sure that you only wear shoes that you feel confident enough to pull off, and only follow trends that you actually like.
We finally have some semi-spring weather here, and it is so exciting! I can't stop wearing skirts and dresses after having to be bundled up for so long.
