Prom has got to be the most overrated "milestone life event" ever. All that build-up, significance, and excitement just leads up to a night of awkward embarrassing photos, poor fitting suits, shiny dresses, bad hair, tacky limos, and bad decor at a location such as the "Armenian Club." It is just a dance- no different from the ones held in the high school gym- but one which everyone spent a lot of money getting ready for. However, there is something to be said for having the opportunity to get all dressed up in formal wear- something that never happens in the lives of most teenagers or even adults. And I do think that my school's prom must have just been particularly bad. The camping after-party was quite amazing though. But doesn't everyone look back on their prom pictures with dismay and maybe even horror? I know I do. I think people wish they could redo prom when they are a bit older and wiser with their hair, makeup and fashion choices (because most 17 year olds don't have the best judgement when it comes to preparing for formal occasions). I have actually been given the opportunity to go to prom at my current age of 20- I am going to my friend's prom/grad dance with him next week. It is such a different experience now, and has been really interesting trying to figure out what to wear. This outfit seems pretty great to me- simple and flattering black dress with some cool accessories. I am preparing myself for dirty looks from the girls wearing floor-length candy-coloured gowns and tiaras.
